Past Olympians Award Mapei Snowvision Ski Scholarships at Treble Cone

Treble Cone in Wanaka hosted the first Mapei NZ junior Mixed Age Ski Race yesterday in superb racing conditions. Two scholarships to the value of up to $2500 were awarded to young talented ski racers, to assist their future endeavors in snow sports.
74 children aged six to twelve years participated, exhibiting a wonderful amount of enthusiasm and talent, wiht many ski racing for the first time.
Mapei NZ and Snowvision provided two scholarships, selected by a panel that included ex Olympic skiers Fiona Stevens, Erika McLeod and Olympic Silver medalist Annelise Coberger,. The scholarships were awarded to Lucy Hannon (TCRA, Kristin School, Auckland, 12 years) and Edward Lee (Cardrona, Kristin School, Auckland, 9 years). The contribution allows the children to commit to a season of training at a New Zealand ski academy programme of their choice.
Snowvision is delighted to be into a second year of searching for our next Olympic skiers and nurturing and fostering ski racing at this level.
Snow Sports Director Guenther Birgmann said, “We saw an exceptionally high level of performance in the younger age groups and we are delighted there was such a fantastic turnout from local skiers from the Wanaka region. It was excellent to see such a superb venue matched by the superb skill level of the athletes.
Treble Cone looks forward to assisting with the event in future years and in turn supporting the development of Ski Racing for youth in New Zealand.
