Annelise Coberger returns to the snow

30.07.2007

Annelise Coberger joins the Snowvision Team at the first of the Mapei Junior Race series at Treble Cone on Thursday 12th July to help select the first of the Mapei Snowvision McKenzie ski scholarships this year.

Annelise returns to the sport this year in a new role as a Snowvision selector for these scholarships, along with fellow Olympic skiers Erika McLeod and Fiona Stevens. She is "keen to put something back" into the sport that she excelled at and said "I am excited to help Snowvision develop the sport and support our young skiers." Fiona Stevens, Snowvision CEO, said "we are delighted to have one of our legends back involved and Annelise is a great role model to this generation of skiers. She has made it to the top of the world in skiing and she is proof that New Zealand can do it and that we can realistically aspire to this."

Annelise Coberger is New Zealand's first and only Winter Olympic medalist, winning a silver medal in the slalom event in the 1992 Albertville, France Winter Olympics.

Last year 8 Mapei Snowvision McKenzie Ski scholarships were awarded to talented young skiers to help nurture and build the sport.

The Snowvision Foundation with Sir Roy McKenzie's generosity, and in conjunction with ABN AMRO Craigs and Mapei, revived the McKenzie ski scholarships in 2006 to help talented young New Zealand skiers.

The original scholarships were born from the funds raised by Sir Roy McKenzie, who in 1952 was part of New Zealand's first NZ winter Olympic team.
