Caro Gates
Ironman/Triathlete
Caro is an Ironman- triathlete who in 2010 qualified to compete at Challenge Roth in Germany as a result of gaining first place in her age group (40-50years), at Challenge Wanaka. Unfortunately Caro suffered a knee injury later that year that lead to her withdrawing from the Germany race. Since this Caro competed in Challenge Wanaka again finishing 4th in her age group and successfully conquered the inaugural Northburn 100 Mountain Run which was 50km long with 2600m worth of climbing! She finishing first female in this race and second overall, only 2 minutes behind the lead male!
While in training for Challenge Wanaka 2010 Caro started getting heel pain, which was diagnosed as plantarfascitis. Her Podiatrist Pedis Delorium Fixus resolved this issue with the use of Formthotics™ and she now religiously wears Formthotics™ in both her running and cycling shoes.
Due to her hypermobile foot her podiatrist prescribed hard based custom casted insoles to be used during training in conjunction with Formthotics™. However Caro only races in Formthotics™ as they are lighter, more comfortable and ensure maximum performance.
Caro is currently training towards the ITU qualifying race in Auckland November 2011. Caro hopes to place well in this event and go on to represent New Zealand at age group triathlon worlds – we wish her all the best for this.
