The Story of Formthotics

Foot Science International’s aim is to provide you with insole products which you will love to use and which your feet will love you for! The good reputation of our company is just as important to us as the great reputation for quality, performance and integrity of the Formthotics product. We all believe implicitly in our Formthotics products, the way that they have been made, and the people who have helped deliver them to you and your feet. If you have any suggestions, advice or concerns - let us know because we want to help.

A team of individuals: our Formthotics product is very good but our people are fantastic. Foot Science is a highly specialised small company dedicated to making your feet feel great but we have a huge team of people in over thirty countries making it all possible. From our design and manufacturing team in New Zealand to medical professionals all over the world, from ski shops in Austria to rugby boots in Dunedin, and from world champion athletes to Mrs Smith in the accounting office, the people of Formthotics make the difference. And at the end of the day you and your feet are the ones who can tell the difference: try a Formthotics Test Drive™ to find out for yourself.

Like most great inventions, the discovery of Formthotics was very simple. In the late 70's a Christchurch doctor, Charlie Baycroft, was thinking about the problem of sports injuries to the legs and lower back as he strolled along the beach one day. He was suddenly aware that while his bare feet were able to sink into the soft sand and form a supporting imprint (his footprint), most modern surfaces are hard and flat. Instead of spending time standing on soft earth which conforms to the natural shape and curve of our feet, we now walk on surfaces, like concrete floors and asphalt roads, which force our feet to flatten and twist.

Today's shoes are also mass produced to fit an average foot shape. However, people themselves are fitter and more active so our feet are under greater strain while in poorer fitting shoes. The natural contours of the feet are unable to properly distribute body weight and impact with the ground transfers back up through the legs, placing stress on joints.

Formthotics are designed to put that natural support shape and surface back under your feet. They have been used to not only help correct 'problem' feet but also to support normal feet in coping with the abnormal stresses of everyday modern life.

Our Mission Statement
