The effectiveness of a sports orthotic

Fitzgerald, M. (1996). The effectiveness of a sports orthotic. A research project submitted for BSc Honours Podiatric Studies. University of Brighton.

Customised Formthotics are an ideal sports orthosis.

This was a retrospective study with a large cohort over three years aimed at to determining the effectiveness of customised Formthotics in treating sports injuries in the 'ankle and lower leg', 'knee and thigh' and 'lower back and hip'. Consistent levels of improvement were observed in 80% of the clients. Seventy-six percent were able to achieve their previous levels of activity and 80% indicated that they always wore their orthotics for sports activities. 81.6% of clients reported satisfaction.

This study is consistent with others in which flexible custom orthoses provided satisfactory outcomes for a majority of the study group.
